What is Health Coaching?
Health coaching is a patient-centred process that provides personalised lifestyle support, helping patients to increase activity levels, improve eating habits and maintain the long-term changes they need to improve their health and wellbeing through developing accountability in health behaviours.
What are the benefits of health coaching?
Following a period of health coaching, clinicians report patients are more able to self-manage their lifestyle and health behaviours, long term health conditions, and medications. People may also show improved outcomes in mild mental health difficulties, adherence to medication, and positive effects on other health issues including falls.
Who is it for?
Health Coaching is for individuals who require help with making lifestyle changes and those who could benefit from making healthier lifestyle choices. This person may feel unmotivated or may have attempted to make lifestyle changes in the past but has been unsuccessful. Lifestyle changes may include:
- Healthy eating
- Increasing activities
- Reducing smoking or alcohol use
- Managing stress
