The Active Referral Scheme is run by Harborough District Council in partnership with East Leicestershire & Rutland CCG, Leicestershire County Council, Leicester-Shire & Rutland Sport, GP Practices and other Health Care Professionals.

The Harborough District Sport & Physical Activity Team are responsible for developing the scheme and create more pathways to provide more residents living in Harborough the opportunity to access the Active Referral Scheme. Furthermore, trying to make GP's/Practitioners around Harborough more aware of the scheme so we can use the programme as a way of improving the Health & Wellbeing of our communities.

Exercise Referral is a countywide scheme whereby patients will get referred from their GP's/Practitioners to undertake a 12 week exercise programme at one of our leisure centres or outreach classes located in the Harborough District which aims to improve their medical condition through physical activity.

The scheme allows participants to:

• Get a special rate at participating leisure centres
• Take part in exercise at a convenient venue in the local community.
• Exercise Under the guidance of qualified exercise professionals.

The 12-week programme offers clients ongoing encouragement and support to make the first steps in becoming more active on a regular basis.

Activity options include gym-based, health walks and community exercise classes and are based at different locations/times across the district for ease of access.

How do I gain access to the scheme?

Please speak to your GP to agree if the scheme is suitable for you. Your GP will then refer you to Active Harborough at Harborough District Council who will then process your referral. If you haven't heard about your referral within 4 weeks, please get in touch via email: exercisereferral@harborough.gov.uk
